CFO/Company Controller – Higher Education

Overview:

Ōnin Staffing is currently seeking an experienced and strategic candidate to serve as the CFO/Company Controller for a local community college in Meridian, MS. This key leadership position is responsible for overseeing all financial and business operations of the college, ensuring fiscal integrity, compliance, and accountability.

What You’ll Do:

• Lead and manage all financial functions including Accounting, Budgeting, Procurement, Auditing, Financial Reporting, and Risk Management
  
• Develop and oversee the annual operating budget in collaboration with college departments
  
• Provide strategic financial advice to the President and Board of Trustees
  
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and accrediting regulations as well as GAAP/GASB standards
  
• Oversee accounts payable/receivable, purchasing, asset management, and grants management
  
• Direct external audits and ensure timely resolution of findings
  
• Manage investment strategies and maintain appropriate insurance coverage
  
• Provide accurate monthly and annual financial reports and forecasts
  

Skills and Experience:

Required Qualifications:

• Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field OR active CPA license
  
• 7–10 years of progressive financial leadership experience (Director of Finance, Assistant CFO, or CFO)
  
• Proven ability to manage complex budgets and compliance reporting
  
• Excellent leadership, communication, and decision-making skills
  

Preferred Qualifications:

• Knowledge of Mississippi community college funding structures or similar state systems
  
• Experience leading clean external audits with minimal findings
  
• Familiarity with governmental accounting and grant compliance
  
• Experience using enterprise financial systems (Ellucian Banner, CampusCafe, or similar)
  
• Strong presentation skills with the ability to communicate complex data clearly
