Job Title: Divisional CFO – Residential Homebuilder (Public Company Experience Required)
Location: Charlotte, NC

Position Summary

The Divisional CFO will oversee all financial operations for the division and serve as a strategic partner to the Division President. This role requires a deep understanding of homebuilding operations, as well as the financial rigor and reporting standards required in a public company environment. The ideal candidate will bring a blend of operational finance expertise and strategic insight to help drive performance and growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead all divisional finance and accounting operations, including budgeting, forecasting, cost analysis, and reporting
  • Ensure compliance with public company standards, including SOX controls, internal audit processes, and corporate reporting requirements
  • Partner with division leadership to drive profitability, efficiency, and long-term strategic planning
  • Oversee land acquisition underwriting, community development financials, job costing, and margin analysis
  • Prepare and present financial performance updates to corporate leadership
  • Lead local finance team and coordinate with corporate finance, accounting, and investor relations as needed
  • Monitor KPIs, analyze trends, and recommend proactive actions to address risks or capitalize on opportunities
  • Drive accountability and financial transparency across operational teams

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field (MBA or CPA preferred)
  • 8–10+ years of progressive financial leadership experience
  • Public company experience is required (homebuilding, real estate development, or construction industry strongly preferred)
  • Strong working knowledge of SOX compliance, GAAP, and internal controls
  • Proven experience in divisional or regional leadership roles, ideally within a matrixed organization
  • Familiarity with ERP systems and advanced Excel/financial modeling skills
  • Ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and communicate effectively across all levels of the organization
  • Hands-on leadership style with a balance of strategic thinking and tactical execution
