As regulatory expectations, global competition, and commercialization velocity increase, we are seeking a visionary Head of Research to define and lead enterprise-wide scientific direction, fully remote within the United States.
This is not a lab management position. This is a national-level innovation leadership mandate.
Job Function
The Head of Research will architect and execute a long-horizon research strategy across foundational AI, applied machine learning, model safety, and computational innovation domains. The role balances breakthrough discovery with commercialization alignment, IP strategy, and enterprise competitiveness.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Define a multi-year U.S.-based research roadmap aligned with enterprise AI strategy
- Lead distributed research teams across the United States
- Oversee development of next-generation foundation models and AI architectures
- Guide applied research initiatives transitioning into product pipelines
- Establish AI safety, governance, and responsible innovation standards
- Drive high-impact publications, patents, and research visibility
- Manage large-scale compute resource allocation and research budgeting
- Develop partnerships with U.S. universities, federal research programs, and innovation hubs
- Mentor senior research scientists and cultivate elite research talent
- Align intellectual property strategy with commercialization goals
- Present research strategy and progress to the executive leadership and the Board
Strategic Support
- Advise CTO and CEO on emerging AI and computational breakthroughs
- Strengthen enterprise positioning as a U.S.-based AI innovation leader
- Support federal and enterprise research collaborations
- Contribute to M&A due diligence related to research capabilities
- Align research initiatives with regulatory expectations in the United States
- Guide long-term enterprise innovation investment strategy
Job Qualifications and Requirements
- 15+ years of progressive research leadership experience
- 8+ years leading large-scale AI or advanced computing research teams
- Proven record of high-impact publications and innovation leadership
- Deep expertise in machine learning, distributed systems, or advanced computational sciences
- Experience managing distributed remote research organizations
- Strong understanding of AI ethics, safety, and governance frameworks
- Demonstrated ability to connect research discovery with commercialization
- PhD in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Computational Sciences, or related field required

Compensation & Benefits
Total Executive Compensation Package: $240,000 – $388,000 USD
